Pulsar directions are measured precisely, but many distances remain uncertain and model-dependent. Computed mode recalculates planar ray lengths using each record’s preferred available distance estimate from the bundled ATNF PSRCAT 2.8.1 snapshot (retrieved 2026-08-17).
Archive mode instead preserves approximate geometry reconstructed from the original inscription using the primary 1972 description by Sagan, Sagan, and Drake and Johnston’s later numerical reconstruction. Substantial differences between the two modes are therefore expected.
